A three-penny bill of currency. An unusual, finely printed specimen of the Revolutionary War bill for "three pence." Dated October 11th, 1777, Connecticut. During America's war for independence, inflation was far worse than today. In some cases, the value of the money dropped to 1/40th of its prewar level. Metal coins were hoarded, and so to give the average patriot small change, these bills for three pence were specifically printed. The design of a pine cone tree is featured on the bill with a fancy border. In very fine condition.
