Dear Mr Cauldwell,
At a quarter to ten I reach home so disappointed not to be with you as intended. It was impossible for me to make an earlier train & my Secretary forgot to wire you – he only remembered to do so as he was leaving me here at the door.
It is positively annoying but I trust you are having a delightful time & that your illustrious guest is well pleased with his Company tonight & has had a fine send off for the field of his duties.
