Handwritten letter on his printed letterhead, “Andrew Carnegie, 5 West 51st Street, New York,” dated “Friday,” and signed at the conclusion in full, “Andrew Carnegie.” The letter measures 4.5" x 7". Expected light handling wear, including mailing folds and mild toning, otherwise fine condition.

Full Transcription ; ANDREW CARNEGIE, 5 WEST 51ST STREET, NEW YORK. Friday 9:58 p.m.

Dear Mr Cauldwell,

At a quarter to ten I reach home so disappointed not to be with you as intended. It was impossible for me to make an earlier train & my Secretary forgot to wire you – he only remembered to do so as he was leaving me here at the door.

It is positively annoying but I trust you are having a delightful time & that your illustrious guest is well pleased with his Company tonight & has had a fine send off for the field of his duties.

I hope to see you & also Mr Peck here either Friday good night & may he with you a'
