Autograph of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales—later King Edward VII—signed “Albert Edward” on the reverse of a Bradford and Shelf Tramway Company stationery sheet, measuring 8 x 5 inches when folded. The sheet bears a mounted red One Penny British stamp featuring his royal profile, with a later notation reading “Stamp issued as King – 1st Jan 1902,” identifying it as the first issue following his accession to the throne after Queen Victoria’s death in 1901.
Above his bold signature, Edward has inscribed “Aug. 29 / 73” (1873) along with his title “Prince of Wales,” dating the autograph to nearly three decades before his coronation. In fine, clean condition.
Edward VII (Albert Edward; 9 November 1841 – 6 May 1910) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 22 January 1901 until his death in 1910.
