Abraham Lincoln: 1846 Poll Book Leaf for Wrights, Illinois. One page, recto, and verso, 15" x 12.25". A partially printed page used in the August 1846 Congressional election. Abraham Lincoln faced off against Peter Cartwright (1785-1872), a local preacher who was a popular and well-respected orator. Cartwright attempted to use religious bigotry during his campaign by claiming that Lincoln was an "infidel." A handbill was then published by an exasperated Lincoln, where he denied any wrongdoing. While this particular page shows Cartwright receiving 6 votes to Lincoln's 0, Lincoln ultimately won the election. In fine condition.
