16th President of the United States. Military Appointment Signed as president and countersigned by War Secretary Edwin Stanton. One partially-printed vellum page, 16" x 19.5", "City of Washington," dated just 2 weeks before Lincon would be assassinated, February 24, 1865, appointing James W. Delay "Commissioner of Subsistence of Volunteers with the rank of Captain in the service of the United States." With patriotic vignettes and a large blue paper seal of the War Office in the upper left corner. Toned with somesoiling, and stains along the edges. A few minor holes exist along folds, signature is fine.
