Samuel Adams Document Signed as Governor of Massachusetts 1796

Sought-after partly-printed DS, signed “Samuel Adams,” one page, 14.25 x 9.25, April 15, 1796. As governor of Massachusetts, Samuel Adams appoints George Lee as “Captain of a Third Regiment of the Second Brigade fifth Division of Militia of this Commonwealth." Signed in the upper left, below the embossed seal of Massachusetts, by Governor Samuel Adams, and countersigned at the conclusion by Secretary John Avery. In good condition, but has been archivally restored in a couple of areas with some missing paper and reinforced folds throughout with scattered stains, and some minor paper loss at fold intersections. A nice-looking military document from the Revolutionary leader.
