TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 6, 1968. This letter was written 2 months after Kings' death to the Executive Director of the A.C.L.U. of Southern California Mr. Eason Monroe. Apologizes for the delay because of the "tremendous volume of correspondence responding to request. She states "I would be happy to grant permission to the American civil liberties union of South southern California to designate their awards to winners of the "meaning of the Bill of Rights" essay contest as the "Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Awards" the work of the A.C.L.U. has long been admired by all of us who are working to further the cause of human freedom and justice my husband was particularly interested in your work and I’m sure he would’ve been greatly pleased to lend his name to such a significant organization in such a valuable project as the essay contest you describe please extend my own personal best wishes to the winners of the contest these young people are the present and the future for all of us and we all wish them well sincerely Yours, Coretta Scott King, Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr."" In fine condition.
