On September 7, 1929, "Hawk Island' (now apparently in revival) opened on Broadway with Clark Gable in the principal role of Gregory Sloane. On an 8-1/2"x14" "Salary List" form, all the cast members are listed along with their weekly salaries. That Gable was the star, is evidenced by his figure of $400 a week, twice that of the second highest salary listed. Following each name, the actor has signed, Gable being at the top. Pay is for the week ending September 28, 1929. Other signing actors who later "made it" in the movies include Henry O'Neill and Charles Halton.

This is thought to be one of the earliest known signatures of Gable extant, preceding by a year the onset of his Hollywood career. Comes with color copy promotional piece with scene from the production showing Gable in formal wear, wielding a pistol, while O'Neill and others look on. Also a vintage newspaper ad listing the cast.

With One Of A Kind Collectibles COA.
