Vinegar Bend Mizell had one of the greatest nicknames in baseball history, but also had nine productive seasons with the Cardinals, Pirates, and expansion Mets. He won 14 games twice, and 13 twice, finishing with a 90-88 career record and one All-Star appearance. His early career was interrupted by military service in 1954 and 1955, but Mizell made the most of it playing "service ball" and with a championship.
This roval blue wool blend jacket has stretch ribbed white and blue striping trim on the waist sleeves and collar. It has a 7-button front which remains in working order and has also dual front pockets. The only label is a size 46 swatch straight stitch affixed within the left pocket. The left chest has a beautiful blue and white elevated chenille logo with a baseball motif. It reads "3rd ARMY CHAMPIONS 1955" and sits atop a blue felt base. The jacket was sourced from Mizell, is in excellent condition, and can be considered a rare and beautiful military keepsake from a quality major-league pitcher. Eminently displayable and/or wearable. Also included is the last ball pitched in the final game for the 1955 3rd Army Champions, signed by members of the team.
