Original vintage matte-finish portrait of Fleet Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey, Jr. (1882–1959), one of the most celebrated American naval commanders of World War II. The distinguished image shows Halsey in uniform with his four-star insignia visible, smiling in a relaxed seated pose. Boldly inscribed and signed in blue fountain pen, “To Miss Irene Guilfoyle – with kindest regards – W.F. Halsey – Fleet Admiral U.S. Navy.”
As one of only four men in U.S. history to achieve the rank of Fleet Admiral, Halsey commanded the U.S. Third Fleet during the Pacific campaign, playing a pivotal role in the Allied victory over Japan. Signed photographs of Halsey as Fleet Admiral are scarce, and this example is enhanced by its large size and excellent contrast.
