Ellsworth," 1p, 8½"x4", [Hartford, CT], Jun 4, 1776. Pay order for Oliver Wells of 7 pounds, two Shillings, 7 pence for salt peter "made in & sold to this Colony & charge the Colony.." Boldly signed as a member of Committee one month before the Declaration of Independence. Signed also by JOHN LAWRENCE as treasurer and others. Receipt penned on verso. Fine.
