Amelia Earhart First Day Cover Signed "Amelia Earhart". 5.5" x 3.5", signed on a Boston Chapter National Aeronautic Association first day cover in red pencil, July 9, 1928.

In the spring of 1928, in the wake of Lindbergh's first trans-Atlantic flight, Earhart was offered the offered the chance of being the first woman to cross the Atlantic. On June 17, 1928 she and fellow pilots Wilmer Stultz and Lou Gordon - the "Friendship Fliers" - departed Trepassey, Newfoundland and crossed the Atlantic landing in Burry Point, Wales. Though she never actually was given the opportunity to do any of the flying, the event catapulted her to international attention. The postcard is in excellent condition with a Boston postmark dated July 9, 1928 on the recto and a Chicago postmark dated July 10, 1928 on the verso. The postcard also has 10 cent cancelled air mail stamp and the verso features a map of the United States with lines indicating all air mail routes established at the time. From the Judith Kaplan Women's History Collection.
