Son of auto pioneer Henry Ford (1893-1943) who succeeded his father as head of the Ford Motor Company. TLS signed “Edsel Ford,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, October 14th, 1937. Letter to Ellis A. Gimball (of Gimball department store), In part: " I wish to acknowledge receipt of the replica of the medal presented to Amelia Earhart which I have examined with much interest". The Gimballs honored Earhart with the award for being “FIRST WOMAN IN THE WORLD TO FLY ALONE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN MAY 21, 1932 AMELIA EARHART.”
Edsel Bryant Ford (November 6, 1893 – May 26, 1943) was an American business executive and philanthropist who was the son of pioneering industrialist Henry Ford and his wife, Clara Jane Bryant. He was the president of Ford Motor Company from 1919 until his death in 1943. His eldest son was Henry Ford II, who succeeded him as president of Ford.

The front of the medal featured a bust of the aviator and the following text to commemorate her feat: “FIRST WOMAN IN THE WORLD TO FLY ALONE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN MAY 21, 1932 AMELIA EARHART.”
