A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MANUSCRIPT, SAM HOUSTON, SIGNED, LETTER TO SAM MAY WILLIAMS, CEDAR POINT AND GALVESTON, SEPTEMBER 1, 1841, hand-inscribed blue ink on Ives, Stergas & Co. cream laid watermarked paper, written from Sam Houston's summer home in Cedar Point to banker Sam May Williams of Galveston, Texas; a friendly letter where Sam Houston bemoans he is not getting paid for debts owed, asking for advice to get paid, and informs him that he will travel to Washington D.C. from September to October, "...I will make some money - millionaires priority in the D.C., and particularly when the system of Government enforces "Robbery" as a legal resource. With best regards to the Mrs. and yourself, Sam Houston." 10" x 16"
Samuel Houston was an American soldier and politician. An important leader of the Texas Revolution, Houston served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas, and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. He also served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas, the only American to be elected governor of two different states in the United States.
