A Samuel J. Tilden ALS dated May 9th, 1864 (Civil War Era) and 8" x 5" in size. Also included is an engraving of Samuel J. Tilden that is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". Both fine condition.
Samuel J. Tilden was an American politician who served as the 25th Governor of New York and was the Democratic candidate for president in the disputed election of 1876. Tilden was the second presidential candidate to lose with a victory of the popular vote and is the only person to win an outright majority of the popular vote in a United States presidential election but lose the election.
