One of the cornerstones to any Hall of Fame baseball autograph collection, George Wright was arguably the greatest original baseball player in history.As the greatest player of the period before professional league play, he was the game’s first revolving free agent, selling his services to the highest bidder in each of five successive seasons following the Civil War As a shortstop for the first professional team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, Wright played from 1869 to 1882, winning the Clipper Medal for the best shortstop in 1868. He was one of the earliest inductees into the Hall of Fame in 1937. Wright & Ditson was Wright's New Jersey Sporting Goods store that helped develop many sports, including golf, hockey and tennis. Rare DS, signed “Geo. Wright,” one page, 8 x 11.75, January 2, 1923. Waiver of notice document for a special meeting of the “A. J. Wright & Ditson of New Jersey” corporation, in which the board of directors agrees to “consent to the transaction of any business that may properly come before said meeting.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by George Wright, his sons Beals and Irving Wright. Beals Wright was an American tennis player who was active at the end of the 1890s and early 1900s. He won the singles title at the 1905 U.S. National Championships. Wright was a two-time Olympic gold medalist. The document is also signed by his brother and national tennis champion Irving Wright and even Henry Boardman Spalding the son of J.
