Collection of three stocks:
This fine early 1865 American Express Stock Certificate Signed by Henry Wells and William Fargo. 11.625" x 8.25". Made out to a Rufus G. Regards lee of New York for 2 shares It is signed by both founders of the company and countersigned by Treasurer Alex Holland. The graphics are quite outstanding, with a train, roundhouse, ships, delivery wagon, safe, cotton and crated goods, and a guard dog labeled "Safety & Dispatch." The signatures are good although there is some toning and slight staining in areas on the document, still an attractive stock. Has a 5cent revenue stamp on the front.
Also a America Merchants Union Stock Certificate signed: "Wm G. Fargo" as President, "E. P. Ross" as Treasurer and "J. N. Knapp" as Secretary. 1p, 12x8½. New York, 1868 December ast. Certificate No. 645 for 100 shares. The stock Issue of 180,000 shares of Capital Stock; each share was worth $100.Fine condition all signatures bold. There is a cancelation on the signature of Ross, ot5herwise very fine.
The last document is of the Merchants Union Express. Great vignette of a Merchants Union Express coach leaving port filled with cargo; large green "CAPITAL STOCK 200,000 SHARES" written on center. Certificate printed by Hatch & Company, NY. Some wrinkling and toning at edges. The signatures do have cancelation holes on them, else fair condition. Merchants Union Express Company was an important early affiliate of American Express; in 1868 consolidated with American Express Co. and then in 1873 changed it's name to the American Express Company.
