RARE Autograph and Book Auction October 17th

Two wonderful patriotic musical autographs by Samuel F. Smith, celebrated for composing the lyrics to "My Country, 'Tis of Thee"; and Walter Kittredge, acclaimed songwriter of the Civil War camp song "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground."
1. An autograph musical quote signed by Samuel Francis Smith (1808-1895), the Baptist minister and poet, as "S.F. Smith." Above his signature, Smith has inscribed the first line of his most famous lyrics as "My country, 'tis of thee, - ." N.d. but ca. 1890s. [Concord, New Hampshire.] The autograph is on blue-lined Eagle Hotel stationery laid down on a Victorian scrapbook page. A book or magazine plate image of Smith, cut into an octagonal shape, partly obscures the upper right corner of the paper mount. The reverse of the scrapbook page shows a book or magazine plate image of Polish opera singer Marcella Sembrich (1858-1935). Expected wear including minor toning and paper wavering, else near fine and neatly trimmed to an overall size of 6.125" x 5.875."
2. An autograph musical quote signed by American songwriter Walter Kittredge (1834-1905) as "Walter Kittredge." Kittredge has penned some additional words including the song title and first line of the chorus of "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground" as: "'Tenting On The Old Camp Ground' / Many are the hearts that are - / weary to night / Compliments Of The Author / Walter Kittredge / Reeds Ferry / N.H." N.d. On blue-lined paper laid on a larger paper mount. Isolated scuffs, else near fine. 6.5" x 3.5."
