Two items signed by Scott Carpenter: a TLS, one page, 8 x 9.5, March 15, 1963, in part: "Thank you for the letter…The message conveyed made me realize that people are truly interested in the space program. Although the project has been achieved because of the efforts of many who have worked directly with it, the interest and support of the people has really contributed to its success"; and an official vintage color 8 x 10 NASA lithograph of Carpenter with a Mercury 7 pin on his lapel, neatly signed in black felt tip. In very good to fine condition, with edge toning to the letter, and overall rippling and creasing to the photo.
Scott Carpenter (May 1, 1925 – October 10, 2013) was an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, astronaut, and aquanaut. He was one of the Mercury Seven astronauts selected for NASA's Project Mercury in April 1959. Carpenter was the second American to orbit the Earth and the fourth American in space, after Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, and Glenn.
