Lot consists of 2 documents related to Josiah Bartlett, New Hampshire physician, statesman, signer of the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation, first New Hampshire Governor, Chief Justice of the Superior Court, etc. Both from the Bartlett family papers, sold as part of the Bartlett estate at Kingston, New Hampshire, and from the Dr. John K. Lattimer collection.
One is an extensive inventory of household goods, about 1750, 2 pages, 11" x 7", listing everything from candlesticks to looking glasses. Either a Bartlett family document or estate inventory from a legal case handled by Bartlett. In fine condition with a small hole at the center.
The second is an autographed document, 1764, 2" x 8" inches a small receipt or order for hauling planks of white oak lumber for “Doctor Bartlett” with notations. In fine condition.
Josiah Bartlett (December 2, 1729 – May 19, 1795) was an American Founding Father, physician, statesman, delegate to the Continental Congress for New Hampshire, and a signatory to the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation. He served as the first governor of New Hampshire and chief justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court of Judicature.
