The banking and land agency was formed by John T. Baldwin and G.M. Dodge in Jan. 1856. Within a few years their brothers ended up assuming and running the business. These notes circulated when small bills and silver had all but disappeared from the area in the late 1850s. The situation was relieved when the State Bank of Iowa came into existence in 1859. This attractive remainder has a reddish-brown netting design and several attractive vignettes including one of a train
