Raoul Dufy, French painter (1877–1953) best known for his colorful depictions of such outdoor social events as regattas and horse races. Autograph letter signed ("Raoul Dufy"), in French, to Mrs. Bignou. Ceret, [May 1940]. 2 pages, 4to, on blue paper. Writing Mrs. Bignou, an art dealer, at the outset of WWII, Dufy reports that he found an apartment in Ceret and is settling in. Ceteret was known for many famous artist In 1919, after World War I, a wave of artists coming directly from Montparnasse in Paris, landed in Ceret, with painters such as Chaim Soutine, Raoul Dufy and the poet Jean Cocteau. Étienne Bignou [fr] (1891–1950) was a French art dealer known for his promotion of the Impressionists.He represented Dufy as one of his artist.
