Judge Roy Bean - Law West of the Pecos
Judge Roy Bean - 1pg DS all in his hand completely filled in and signed by him, Langtry, Texas, July 1, 1895, being his quarterly report of fines and judgment held in his famous bar room court at Langtry, Texas in which he fined two Mexicans a $1 each plus court cost of $13. A Superb Roy Bean manuscript. He was known as a dispenser of hard liquor and even harder justice and became a legend in west Texas in his own lifetime. He once fined a dead man $40 for carrying a concealed weapon. On another occasion he threatened to hang a lawyer for using profane language in court and freed a man accused of murdering a Chinese railroad worker because he could not find any law that made it a crime "to kill a Chinaman." He named his small town Langtry after the famous actress Lily Langtry, whom he had a passion for. During his last years, Judge Roy Bean dispensed justice only rarely, he spent most of his time worshiping Lily Langtry and following her career hoping that she would visit his little community named in her honor. One of the most interesting frontier lawmen in history, his autograph is quite rare. Very Fine and exhibitable
