BARTLETT, Josiah, (1720-1795). ANS, 8 Aug. 1783, order for payment from the Committee of Safety for supplies, New Hampshire to John Taylor Gilman, Treasurer. Bartlett signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative from New Hampshire. Uncommon to find on related to the Committee of Safety. In good condition has been backed and the ink bled into the paper. There are two cancelation holes, one affecting the bottom part of the J in the signature by Bartlett, otherwise a fine signature.
In the American Revolution, committees of correspondence, committees of inspection (also known as committees of observation), and committees of safety were different local committees of Patriots that became a shadow government; they took control of the Thirteen Colonies away from royal officials, who became increasingly helpless.
With One of a Kind Collectibles LOA.
