Joseph Reed Autograph Document Signed ("Jos: Reed President") as President of the Supreme Provincial Council of Pennsylvania. One page, 7.375" x 5.75", "In Council" Philadelphia; September 13, 1779. An order to Treasurer David Rittenhouse to "Pay to Jonathan Dickenson Sergeant... Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on his order the Sum of two thousand pounds, for one year's Salary..." Signed, "Jos: Reed President". Receipted by Jonathan Dickenson. ADS fully affixed to mounting sheet of equal size; bottom left corner chipped but extant with lot; split along two vertical folds, one of which crosses signature; heavily toned with some soiling.
Interesting document in that it is to pay Jonathan Dickenson The Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania his salary.
Joseph Reed (1741-1785) served as Washington's aide-de-camp and adjutant-general of the Continental Army during the Revolution. He signed the Articles of Confederation as a delegate of Pennsylvania and was elected President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania in 1778.
