John Hanson military appointment was signed ("John Hanson") as President of the Confederation Congress. One partially printed page of vellum, 11.5" x 7", Philadelphia; September 16, 1782. Military appointment signed by John Hanson as President of the Confederation Congress. A document appointing Jonathan Felt to be a Captain in the Seventh Massachusetts Regiment.

It reads, in part:

Seal missing, some light staining and other"To Jonathan Felt ...Reposing special trust and confidence in your Patriotism, Valor, Conduct and Fidelity do by these presents constitute and appoints you to be a Jonathan Felt to be a Captain in the Seventh Massachusetts regiment in the Army of the United States..." Signed "John Hanson Presid." while president of the Confederation Congress. Countersigned by [Major General] Benjamin Lincoln as the first secretary of war. John Hanson's autograph material is considered scarce. This particular example is particularly notable as it was signed during his brief tenure as president of the Confederation Congress, a post he held for just one year from 1781 to 1782. He died the following year in 1783.

John Felt  At Lexington served first as a minute man private and served throughout the American Revolution.

John Hanson (1721-1783) was a politician and merchant who held a number of legislative positions in Maryland, culminating in his election as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1779. In 1781, he signed the Articles of Confederation and was elected as first President of the Confederation Congress, serving from November 5, 1781 to November 3, 1782.John Hanson document framed with portrait.
