Stock Certificate signed: "Wm G. Fargo" as President, "E. P. Ross" as Treasurer, and "J. N. Knapp" as Secretary, 1869 February 15th. Certificate No. 2880 for 10 shares. The stock issue of 180,000 shares of Capital Stock; each share was worth $100. Fine condition all signatures are bold with a cancellation hole going through Knapp.
Also included is an 1867 Merchants Union Express Company. Beautifully engraved certificate dated November 12, 1867. This stock has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a horse drawn express carriage with a ship and warehouse in the background. Signed by the Company's President and Secretary
William Fargo (May 20, 1818 – August 3, 1881) was a pioneer American expressman who helped found the modern-day financial firms of American Express Company and Wells Fargo with his business partner, Henry Wells. He was also the 27th Mayor of Buffalo, serving from 1862 until 1866 during the U.S. Civil War.
