Abraham Lincoln Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln/ March 16, 1865." One page, lined paper, 6.75" x 3", [Washington]. Thirty days before his death, President Lincoln endorses below the handwritten statement, "Let the within named prisoners be discharged on taking the oath of 8th December 1863." On December 8, 1863, the president issued the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction guaranteeing that rebels who took an oath to support the U.S. Constitution would be pardoned. A few of the letters have smudged, including the "n" in "Lincoln". With six signatures in ink on the verso: W. I. Burns, J. E. Hemford, Fred Charman, Thos. Charman, J. G. Glenn, and J. A. Mitchell. Framed together with a lithograph of Lincoln by Dwight C. Sturges Frame: 20.25" x 21.5"
