12th President of the U.S. ALS from Bayou Sara Nov. 17, 1841. Here Taylor writes to a merchant firm (Maunsel White) in New Orleans. He has arrived at his plantation from Arkansas and will be in New Orleans by the 24th, “and where at that time I would like to see Col. White; of which please to advise him if on his sugar plantation so as to afford him an opportunity of coming to the city if within his power to do so.” With a separate address leaf completed in Taylor’s hand. Wax seal remnants. Also included in this superb lot is a fine engraving of Taylor “at the period of his command in Mexico.” In Arkansas he was in command of the second department of the western division of the army at Fort Smith. He sold his Louisiana property a month after writing this letter.
