Rare Type 1 Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Aftermath Photographs
A compelling series of 14 photographs documenting the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, in August 1945 is included. Images include scenes of devastated landscapes, and destroyed infrastructure, in the aftermath of the bomb's catastrophic effects. The photos are mounted on black album pages with some handwritten captions.
With a collection of heartfelt wartime letters written by Pfc. Ben Lasley, stationed in the Pacific theater, including Guadalcanal, addressed to his mother in Covington, Kentucky. The letters, dated 1944-1945, offer personal insights into a soldier's daily life, thoughts on the war, and connections with family and loved ones. He speaks of his morale, longing for home, reflections on military service, and mentions of his sweetheart, Myrtle. Envelopes bear military censor stamps and Army Postal Service markings, adding historical context.
