Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page, 11.5" x 16",dated 24th of January, 1803.Original Presidential ship passport signed by Thomas Jefferson as President and James Madison as Secretary of State. One page partially printed on vellum with beautifully engraved headpiece of a ship and harbor by E. Savage and original wafer Presidential seal, the passport is dated January 24th, 1803 and reads in part, “By the President of the United States of America Suffer the Ship ‘’’  of New Bedford John Conklin master or commander of the burden of Two Hundred FortyThree 15/95. tons or thereabouts, mounted with no guns, navigated with 10 men to pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods, and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure or molestation: the said Brig appearing by good testimony to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States and to him or them only.” Bsigned by Thomas Jefferson at the conclusion, “TH. Jefferson” and countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State. In fine condition some of the areas are faded but Jefferson signature is clear and madisons is there although a little light. With One Of A Kind Collectibles COA.
