This is an amazing piece of History. An Original Patent from The world-renowned inventor Thomas Alva Edison. Whenever asked which invention he was proudest of, he would always say his phonograph. Presented here is an actual patent application for improvements on the Phonograph that Thomas Edison sent to the Governor General of India on January 14, 1890! With his American patent secured, the inventor was always careful to protect his patents and improvements on his inventions. This unique specimen is titled "The Petition of Thomas Alva Edison of Llewellyn Park. In the county of Essex and state of New Jersey, one of the United States of America Electrician for leave to file a specification under Part 1 of 1888 of the Inventions and Designs act of 1888," and signed on the last page in black fountain pen, "Thomas Alva Edison." The 5 page detailed document (7-7/8" x 12-3/4") is written in another hand. It is well preserved, does have some small edge tears and toning throughout, none of which impinges in the least bit upon the pristine signature area. All writing is darkly and clearly scripted, including Edison's signature specimen. Accompanying the patent application is the all related paperwork notarizing and to verify the legitimacy and signature of the great inventor's application. Also 2 additional pages showing the diagrams described within. The diagram pages are on a very thin type of paper and do show heavy toning and some small paper loss which has been professionally protected. The American patent applications for Edison’s inventions are institutionalized and will not be available for sale, so this will be the very rare opportunity to acquire an actual signed patent by the great inventor, of what he considered his greatest invention. Very few of these type of documents are in existence in private hands.
