A 5x7 page on Caldecotts personal stationary where he writes in third person that “ Mr. Caldecott accepts with pleasure the invitation of Willim Abbey at eth Continenatl Hotel at 3 approx. Mr Caldecott is just off to the country again until the centre of next week.”
Caldecott was an English artist and illustrator (1846–1886). He is famous for his drawings of contemporary English country life and for his charming and humorous illustrations, including those for Washington Irving’s Old Christmas and Bracebridge Hall and Blackburn's Breton Folk.
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of him. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
