PIERRE-SIMON, MARQUIS DE LAPLACE (FRENCH, 1740-1827) French scholar whose work was important to the development of mathematics, statistics, physics, and astronomy (1749-1827). Manuscript DS in French, signed “Laplace,”
SIGNED MINISTER OF THE INTERIOR DOCUMENT, four-page laid paper with watermark and integral cover, ink on printed "Liberte Egalite / Le Ministre de la Interieur", Division Bureau des beaux arts document, Paris, le 23 Frimaire, an 8 de la Republique [1799], to Francois-Andre Vincent (Paris, 1746-1816) neoclassical painter. This is an interesting signed document where in Lapalace is referring to the National museum and the appointment of some of the artist responsible for casting plaster molds of ancient sculptures contained the National Museum. In Part “Casting of and, busy researching means to meet the expenses of the Central Museum of Arts, I thought that the casting of the heads years of the ancient sculpture whose models’ originals are gathered in this Establishment could offer some resources, by all means, Plaster copies of these other heads”.
Together with the original collection folder signed "Wm W Valentine / Berlin 1861" and a lithograph print of Laplace. Three pieces total. Document: 9 1/4" x 14 1/4" sheet.
