 RARE PRESENTATION COPY, signed and inscribed by Frank James to his wife Ann Ralson on the title page: 'Mrs. Frank James / Feb 13th, 1896.' Additionally annotated on the final ad page: 'Monocy[sic] River Frederick Co. Jan 17 [date illegible].'

Frank James (January 10, 1843 – February 18, 1915) was a Confederate soldier and guerrilla; in the post-Civil War period, he was an outlaw. The older brother of outlaw Jesse James, Frank was also part of the James–Younger Gang.

Joseph William Comyns Carr (1 March 1849 – 12 December 1916), often referred to as J. Comyns Carr, was an English drama and art critic, gallery director, author, poet, playwright and theatre manager. Carr leased the Comedy Theatre from 1893 to 1896. At the same time, his King Arthur (1895), a blank verse play inspired by the writings of Thomas Malory and Alfred Tennyson. It starred Irving and Ellen Terry, with music composed by Arthur Sullivan and sets, costumes and artwork designed by Carr's friend Edward Burne-Jones. This spectacular production was a success for Irving and ran for over 100 performances, also touring North America.

Condition 8vo (210 x 140 mm).  Original printed wrappers. Pages toned, corners bumped, stain to lower cover, wear to upper cover, some restoration in a custom clamshell box.
