=MONTGOMERY, BERNARD LAW, VISCOUNT. 1887-1976. Document Signed ("Montgomery of Alamein F.M."), 1 p, 4to, carbon typescript, headed "Instrument of Surrender of All German Armed Forces in Holland, in Northwest Germany including all Islands, and in Denmark," n.p., 1971.

SIGNED TRANSCRIPT OF THE NAZI SURRENDER TO FIELD MARSHALL MONGOMERY, specifying that "All hostilities on land, on sea, or in air by German Forces in the above areas to cease at 0800 hrs. British Double Summer Time on Saturday 5 May 1945." Montgomery crossed the Rhine on March 24, 1945. Initially his role was to guard the flank of the American advance but the plan changed to forestall an advance by the Russians into Denmark. The 21st Army Group occupied Hamburg and Rostock and on May 4, 1945, on Lüneburg Heath, Montgomery accepted this Surrender. Over 25 years later, he signs this commemorative document.
