In recognition of the distinguished merit of
Mr. Juan Solana in the management of the Society of the Hacienda
Tomás de Huautla in the town, we have seen fit to grant him
the medal established by decree of October 11,
1864, to reward military merit. In silver.
Given at the Palace of Mexico,
issued by our Minister of Foreign Affairs and sealed in
the name of the nation on [date] February 1865.

Maximilian I was an Austrian archduke who reigned as the only Emperor of the Second Mexican Empire from 10 April 1864 until his execution on 19 June 1867. A younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Maximilian had a distinguished career as commander-in-chief of the Imperial Austrian Navy.
