This is fantastic letter that shows a lot of insight into the painter Frederick S. Church. The letter is written to a Mrs. George B. Douglas and in reference to a painting she had wanted done and paid for called Black Leopards. This painting was featured in an article about Church’s work in 1905 in a book called The Outlook, Volume 81. The letter goes on to state that “Its worth $1000 to receive such an article letter and check. You have evidently gotten one of my last deals” and that it is not in one of the key colors he usually paints with and a little more somber than usual. He also wanted the extra for the frame so that total was $450 which he has given a receipt in this letter which includes a drawing of two leopards and the receipt. Frederick Stuart Church (1842–1924) was an American artist, working mainly as an illustrator and especially known for his (often allegorical) depiction of animals. Great painting content in fine condition.
