"A great deal of valuable information was obtained from my flight and the flights of Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, and Scott Carpenter"

Two items signed by John Glenn: a TLS signed "J. H. Glenn, Jr.," one page, 8 x 10, NASA letterhead, January 28, 1963, in part: "I would like to thank you for your interest and thoughtfulness in writing to me about the flight of the Friendship 7 spacecraft, and, at the same time, apologize for the delay in answering. I am sure you will understand that the task of answering more than 100,000 letters while continuing my work in the space program made the delay inevitable. A great deal of valuable information was obtained from my flight and the flights of Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, and Scott Carpenter. Each flight is a steppingstone in our ever-expanding manned space flight research program"; and an official vintage color 8 x 10 NASA lithograph of Glenn with a Mercury 7 pin on his lapel, signed in black ballpoint, "J. H. Glenn, Jr." In very good to fine condition, with edge toning to the letter, and overall rippling to both items.

John Glenn (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016) was an American Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, businessman, and politician. He was the third American in space, and the first American to orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962. Following his retirement from NASA, he served from 1974 to 1999 as a U.S. Senator from Ohio; in 1998, he flew into space again at the age of 77.
