John Cochrane (1813-1898) Union General, politician. Cochrane was brevetted a brigadier general of volunteers in July 1862, but resigned his commission in June 1863, on account of failing health. Before that date, he had commanded a brigade under Brigadier General John Newton of the VI Corps. This brigade was present at the Battle of Fredericksburg.
