CARTER, JIMMY. President. His business checkbook, softcover, Bank of Commerce, Americus, Georgia. 1956-57. 13” x 9”. Each page contained three checks each 8” x 3”, with a page for 3 stubs 4.5” x 9”. 127 blank checks are still in the book. When his father died, Jimmy resigned from the Navy and went back to Plains to rejoin his family’s farm and warehouse business. Stubs in this book make it obvious that this was the first used for his family’s Carter Warehouse corporation. The first eight stubs are in Jimmy’s hand. Check 8 was payable to himself and he has signed “J E Carter Jr. 115.00 less postage 2.45”. Stubs 9 to 59 are all in the hand of Rosalynn, and all are payments to various people and estate for shares. Payees include his brother-in-law E. L. Spann, his father’s estate, J. E. Carter, Jr. and W. A Carter (his brother Billy). The lot includes a letter from a prior consignor who bought it from the man who bought the warehouse and all its contents. It states that the warehouse had belonged to Jimmy’s sister Gloria. A “One of a Kind” lot.
