President of US Secretary of War in Madison’s Cabinet. U.S. Minister to England. ALS as President 1pg. 4to, Washington October 21, 1818. Apparently to Gen. Jacob Brown whose name appears on the verso. Four long narrow stains show through although they do not hurt the writing which is nice and bold. “ You will of course say nothing on any of the subjects relating to individuals, on which we conferr’d when you were here, as till a measure is taken, it is always open to reconsideration & new views. I hope you arrive safe & found your family in good health.” Framed and matted with portrait of Monroe.
