Check written and signed by Cooper, to a Elizabeth Pennington, In the amount of $3.75. Dated February 14,1848. The check at some point was cut in half, which did go through the first initial J,, it has been professionally reattached with archival tape on back side of check, otherwise in good condition. James Fenimore Cooper (September 15, 1789 – September 15, 1851) was a prolific and popular American writer of the early 19th century. His most famous work is the Romantic novel The Last of the Mohicans, often regarded as his masterpiece.
