Mayor Duane approves payment... American Revolutionary leader from New York (1733-1797) who was a signatory of the Continental Association and the Articles of Confederation. Among his many posts, Duane served as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and the Congress of the Confederation, as a New York state senator, the 44th Mayor of New York City, and the 1st post-colonial Mayor of New York City. Manuscript DS, signed “Ja. Duane, Mayor,” one page, 4.5" x 7.75", April 6, 1785. New York Mayor James Duane, "pursuant to an Order of the Common Council," directs the city's treasurer, Daniel Phoenix, to "pay out of the Revenue Fund to Joseph Barrison the sum of Seven Pounds five Shillings and six pence in fullof his account for carting Dirt to Pitch" ." Signed at the conclusion by Duane. In fine condition, with scattered light toning. with an engraving of Duane.
