Isaac Snowden, Jr., was a Philadelphia merchant and a dedicated churchman. He was treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America (PCUSA) from 1799 until his death and of the Presbytery of Philadelphia. Snowden was also an active member and officer of the Second Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, serving as secretary of its Board of Trustees from 1802, as its pew agent, and on the Congregational School Committee. In l8l8 he was ordained an elder. He also served as secretary or treasurer of some of the voluntary societies of Philadelphia, including the Evangelical Society, the Missionary Society, the Humane Society, and the Magdelan Society.
Philadelphia Presbyterian Church was founded in 1770. It is one of the oldest churches in Mecklenburg County. The sanctuary we currently use was dedicated in 1976. Over the past 250+, years Philadelphia’s roots have grown deep in the Mint Hill area and beyond, where we are involved in many community activities. We are part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a nationwide church with missions throughout the world. As a part of this structure PPC is a member of the Presbytery of Charlotte and the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic.
