Letter reads in Full”.Department of Trade Washington, October 11, 1873,Messrs Horton & Rose & Co. London England.Gentleman , John Jay Esquire Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the United states to Austria, is authorized to charge upon account not to exceed Twenty Thousand Dollars, the same to be charged to the appropriation for the expenses of the “International Exposition of Vienna 1873” I am gentleman your obedient servant Hamilton Fish.
The World Exposition 1873 Vienna was the large world exposition that was held in 1873 in the Austria-Hungarian capital of Vienna. Its motto was Kultur und Erziehung (English: Culture and Education).There were almost 26,000 exhibitors housed in different buildings that were erected for this exposition.
