German composer. From 1845 until 1852 he conducted the famous concerts of the "general music association" at Zurich. Here Richard Wagner was his director of music. In 1852 he moved to Braunschweig to advance his career. His song "Wenn die Schwalben heimwärts ziehen" composed in 1842 became famous throughout the world.
