Exceedingly rare ledger page documenting George Washington's expenditures on travel, supplies, and social engagements—activities closely tied to his responsibilities as a military officer during the French and Indian War. This ledger provides valuable insight into the logistical challenges he faced, including expenses for horses, provisions, and accommodations as he moved between frontier outposts and colonial settlements.

The ledger meticulously details expenditures, from stabling horses to purchases of wine and rum. Notably, it records instances in May and June of 1757 when Washington hosted guests for dinner, including his Aide-de-Camp George Mercer (1755–1758) and other prominent figures such as Col. Atkin, Mr. Davenport, Mr. Mildrum, and Mr. Furness. These entries highlight both Washington's social interactions and the practicalities of military leadership during this formative period in his career.

Documents related to Washington from this period are exceedingly scarce in private collections, as he was still establishing his reputation as a military leader. The document is in four pieces and shows signs of fragility, with some edges displaying damage likely from exposure to fire. Despite this, the text remains clear, with the majority of the writing unaffected by the separations and edge damage. On the back, the document has been docketed and dated 5th, of July 1757 and has Col. Washington’s name.

This is a truly rare artifact from Washington’s military career, offering a unique glimpse into his activities during the French and Indian War. It represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of history related to this pivotal period in Washington’s life and early military endeavors, which ultimately laid the foundation for his rise to the presidency.

The document is also accompanied with another pay record from Washington then as president in 1791. This document on top reads: The president of the United States. The document is for sending a bundle by Stagecoach. The document reads that payment in full was received …the signature on the bottom is partially missing but looks to be Rob(ert)??
