Original David G. Farragut Letter of June 13, 1864, as Rear Admiral Commanding the West Gulf Blockade squadron, ordering acting third assistant engineer Edward A. Homan detached from duty for ill health. The letter has toning and fold creases but is in otherwise fine condition.
David Glasgow Farragut ( July 5, 1801 – August 14, 1870) was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He was the first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy.[5][6] He is remembered for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay, usually paraphrased as "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" in U.S. Navy tradition.
